The David Rosenthal book is one of the best I’ve read about jazz, EVER. A Stone Cold Classic.
May I suggest another: ‘Blue Note: The Biography’, Richard Cook. Cook’s enclyopedic knowledge, dispassionate analysis & witty, lucid prose make for a riveting read of an iconic American mid-century record label.

I’ll gladly second the tip about the book called “Vinyl Junkies”.
A must read even though it is not really about collecting jazz per se.
