Jazz musicians, as seen through their record covers

Record cover art can be “objects of desire” in themselves, and are certainly part of the pleasure of owning vinyl over the evil silver disc. They are a marketing tool, or sometimes, a marketing disaster. But from the artists point of view, they are, in a sociologists jargon “the presentation of self” – this is who I am, or would like to be taken as.

The worst are the “pose for camera” photos – this Sonny Fortune portrait is just one of many.
