      Blue Note Japan and Vinyl Weight

      Japanese pressings are almost all in the range 110 – 150 grams, with the emphasis around 120 grams. King Records are generally lighter than the later Toshiba EMI.

      I have not noticed any correlation between vinyl weight and sonic quality among Japanese pressings. It is more about how aggressive the transfer engineer went on dynamic range and volume/depth of cut.

      There are at least two “Masterpiece” series, including the “Special 15” – which claimed super-authentic cover/ label replication, but in my view are no different sonically, which means all pretty good, though not up to the performance of US originals. However same Blue Note originals are all but unobtainable and unaffordable.
